2010-06-28 15:46:03 The Darkness Within I thank you for your opinions, but I liked it and that's all I care about. Sure, I like it when others like it, but I don't really care when someone doesn't. Poetry is a very tempermental mistress. It is also a very hard art to master and even harder to understand. And considering that this was the first piece of poetry I have written in well over 20 years, I was actually shocked that I managed to come up with so many words that rhymed. Poetry is no longer my strong point, and I make no pretenses that I can write it successfully. However I will say that it was MEANT to sound emo and a bit retro, almost corny in a 'from-way-back-there' sense. Have I written better pieces of poetry? Considering that I have had numerous pieces (including this one) chosen by publishers for traditional publication then I would say yes, I have written better. Unfortunately, this is one of only two pieces I have written since I was fourteen years old. I no longer 'do' poetry. I suck at it, lol.
2010-06-29 11:20:22 The Darkness Within The reason most people do not think poetry is any good or they don't 'get' it is because 99.9% of people who read it do not understand how to read it correctly, even those who have spent their entire lives studying it or writing it. Often times having the author read it aloud is about the only way for anyone to get the pauses and breaks correct. Unfortunately, usually the only one a piece ever speaks to is the author. I write poetry like I write everything else; it just comes out and goes down on paper. Especially with poetry, there is no particular rhyme or rhythm that I am going for, it just comes out. But that's the beauty of poetry. It's meant to be ethereal, its meaning veiled in wordiness. Sometimes it's not even suppose to make sense to the writer, but just be a bunch of words strung together more for the sounds than the words themselves. Poetry is a fickle mistress, but her beauty, for those who wish to see it, compares to no other.
2010-06-29 11:23:15 The Darkness Within I was wondering if you, BlackRobin, have ever written any poetry? Just curious. If so I would very much like to read some of it.
2010-06-29 22:16:32 The Darkness Within I notice you did not answer the question. Have you ever written any poetry? You half-way hint that you do. If you do write poetry then I notice that you have -not- bothered to put your own works of poetry on XN for others to rip to pieces. Again, I am very curious to read your own works of poetic creativity.
2010-07-01 15:06:55 The Darkness Within Seriously, who CARES if he doesn't like it? I'm the author of it and I don't give 2 cents if he hates it or loves it. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE it when my fans like my work. But I write for ME and if others love it, great, and if they don't, oh well. You can't please all the readers all the time and I certainly don't try. Bottom line is that I have written many pieces which have been chosen for poetry awards as well as traditional publication, so I'm pretty sure I'm a fairly decent writer of poetry. If BR doesn't like my work, that's his opinion and he's certainly entitled to it. I disagree with his opinion, and so do others, and BR disagrees with me, and that's his priority as a free human being. I'm pretty sure I won't curl up and die simply because he doesn't like it.

That's enough said on the subject. Peace.
