2011-03-12 03:02:36 Last Chance....Chapter 4 Loved the unique narrative style you employed here. It drove home the pain with a nice layering of tension. Very passionate writing, holding nothing back. Good to see.
2011-03-12 11:42:24 Anonymous, to answer your question, unless it's one of my nonfiction pieces (which I haven't begun posting here yet), no, nothing is predetermined. I play everything by ear, completely winging it. Once I sit down to write a fiction piece, all I have is an idea for the very first sentence of the story. That's my starting gun. Beyond that, I just wing it. I have no idea where the thing will go, and I prefer to write that way.

I also write in single, uninterrupted bursts. Once I begin writing, I don't stop for anything until the story is done, including editing. This is a truly insane way to write, since it usually takes me a couple/few days to do these things. Editing while delirious from lack of sleep is beyond stupid, I know, but I prefer to write from a single, continuous bout of inspiration.

This chapter was the lone exception to that formula. It took me a few months of fits and starts to get this one written. I even rewrote certain sections, which is unheard of for me.
2011-03-12 11:48:25 It wouldn't have been the same story then. I wanted what's in there, none of which is pointless. I'm not looking to make stories "half as long." Sorry.
2011-03-13 01:29:36 Nope, there's no significance to UCLA, especially since I'm a hardcore USC fan. :-)

I chose UCLA for Dawn simply because I felt that a midwestern girl like her would know more about UCLA than USC, plus USC is a very expensive private school. It seemed more realistic to me that she would dream about going to UCLA and living in Westwood, and that her family might also better be able to afford it.

USC has hotter cheerleaders though, so I really should've had her go to USC instead. Then again, I already used the USC Song Girls angle with Summer, in chapter five of "The Gifts of Summer."
2011-03-14 01:46:39 Anonymous, no biggie. I just thought maybe you had a stutter or something. :-)
