To ignore them would mean to ignore ALL feedback whatsoever. So, if I want to engage with fans, I will have to wade through all kinds of undesirable stuff as well. Which means I get to bitch about it. These are my stories, it's my blog and I will bitch about whatever I like. That's what it's there for. My "obvious" problems are also mine, and I will deal with them as I see fit. Contrary to popular belief though, writing has been enormously constructive to me, and the good outweighs the bad. That doesn't mean it can't be even better, so I'll keep on looking for ways to improve my enjoyment while not taking any of it away from people who like my stuff. I definitely do want to take a lot of enjoyment away from people who dislike it though, and I'm working on that as well. |
| 2015-06-29 17:12:16 | ### 2015-06-28: Blog | Thanks, and yes, I do, though I have to admit that I'm never sure exactly how many fans I have; most of them don't really comment all that much. The problem is, though, that my mind doesn't really count the numbers, and a few hateful comments can sour all the otherwise perfectly fine and nice feedback to a given story. It's shitty, but that's how it works. There are a few ways to deal with that, but none of them are really all that helpful. Like one Anon below said, most of that is born out of envy and since I'm a bit outspoken on a lot of issues I've accrued my own personal layer of haters on top of that. Knowing all that makes it a little more bearable, but not perfect. Pushing back helps a little too, if only to vent my frustration, but the time I spend with assholes is time I don't get to spend writing good stuff. One other site I post on allows authors just to delete any comment they want, and I wish I could do that here. Until then, I'll just work my way through. |

As I've hinted at in the blog entry from 2015-06-27, I've started writing a lesbian sci-fi series, which will definitely have aliens in them (though the first part is pretty tame so far). The problem is not so much the ideas as the time to write them all down. I've got four series now that I like to keep going, and ideas for at least two more, but I can only write so much while still keeping my job and being able to pay bills. Yeah, I wish I could write more, too. |
